Radiator

New Radiator

New Radiator

The new radiator came in today.  We ordered the unit from Brice Thomas (http://www.bricethomasradiator.com/) an almost perfect replica of the original.  All aluminum and includes the correct hose sizes for our Chevy 350.  Cannot wait to get it installed!

Any fellow geeks out there interested in the schematic, here you go! Size, deminsions, positioning, and everything else you would need to build your own!

October 6, 2012: Ready for Painting – Frame

Frame Ready for Paint
Frame Ready for Paint

Removed all the temporary fitted components and cleaned the car getting ready for the frame paint.  We are using Por 15 (http://www.por15.com/POR-15-Rust-Preventive-Paint/products/1/) to seal everything and ensure no future rust.

You can also see the custom engine mounts and the work we did on the firewall to mount the bracket for the master cylinder and brake booster.

Transmission

The new transmission is fitted!  It is a 700R4 that sits perfectly under the existing floor boards.  We have modified the cross member to account for the longer transmission tail and new drive shaft. The cross member was reinforced with the rear transmission mount and an additional brace on the rear.

Custom block hugger headers fit perfectly between the block and the fraCustome Headersme.

September 24, 2012: Bumper Attached

Bumper Fitted

With the fenders and nose attached we fitted the bumper.  Also managed to take a first cut at the dent in the right fender.

A look at the mount up close.  The bolts are set in from the outside.  The nuts welded in on the inside of the frame clip making for easy install and removal when needed.

August 28, 2012: Engine Fitting

First Fitting of the New Engine
First Fitting of the New Engine

First fitting of the new engine.  Plenty of room for other components.  We are setting it low in the frame in order to lower the weight center.  This will allow us to keep the transmission below the floorboards eliminating the need to modify the interior.

It is coming back off this evening and being sent for new gears and a posi unit.

Just for fun

Just for fun.  Racing stickers on the Packard.  Might have the speed to race it but this car is more for show.  Its fun to hear about the remarks when people come into the shop and see the car and wonder if she will be seen on the track!

July 20, 2012: Decisions Decisions

We have an opportiunity to put a SBC 350 into the Packard for a really smoking deal.  We have a donor car as well.  It is a 1968 Nova.  We are going to use the front clip and the 3rd member to set the drive train.  Lots of modification to these components to come but this is the basis.  Excited to see progress next time we go up and take a look!

Heading to Betts Racing

Loaded up for a quick drive.

…sort of! We are heading to Betts Racing in Salisbury, NC to get an opinion on what to do with the suspension.  Considering a clip off of a Impala or Nova.  Looking forward to discussing options and see what will come next for the girl!
